Description

Although I definitely need more hours on this target, I was pleasantly surprised how well the Dolphin Head showed up with less than 5-1/2 hours of total integration time. All subs were 5 minutes in length and I ended up using 45 OIII frames and only 20 in Ha. Shot with a Canon 500 f4 camera lens and a ZWO ASI 294mm Pro. The logistics for this target are difficult for me from my backyard. The Dolphin Head does not rise very high and is completely blocked by neighboring houses and trees from my location. The only way I can shoot it is to drive a short distance to a local beach and shoot out over the ocean's southern skies. Once I set up my imaging run, I curl up in the back of my undersized SUV and try to get some sleep. I never realized that taking up astrophotography as a hobby would require an investment in a good chiropractor!
